Welcome to the 40th Monday Reset for Sports Parents — a short reflection inside The Youth Sports Parenting Tribe.
Each Monday Reset brings you one word, one idea, and one mindset to help you start the week calm, clear, and connected.
This week's word is Sacrifice.
Yours. And whether they know about it.
You wake up early, miss dinners, and spend money you sometimes don’t have on gear, travel, and camps. You do it without thinking twice because they love this sport, and you love them.
But when sacrifice becomes currency—when it gets mentioned in arguments or after a bad game—it stops being a gift. It becomes a debt your child never asked to carry.
Sentences like "after everything we've done for you" don't motivate. They suffocate.
The sacrifice is yours to make freely. The moment it becomes their emotional responsibility, we’ve crossed a line.
This week, check your language. If sacrifice comes up, ask yourself: Am I giving freely, or am I keeping score?
The greatest sacrifices are the ones made quietly—and never mentioned again.
Take a breath. Reset.
Give everything you can, and release them from the weight of carrying it.
